Fact Sheet on Alzheimer's Disease
The Alzheimer's Association - Detroit Area Chapter, founded in 1981, is a private non-profit voluntary health organization. We currently attend to more than 70,000 people with Alzheimer's disease in our service area.
The Alzheimer's Association has four major goals:
Supporting RESEARCH into causes, treatment, cures and prevention
Providing FAMILY AND PATIENT SUPPORT through family counseling and care management, in-home and group respite, telephone help line, family support groups, patient support groups, autopsy assistance, and Safe Return registration
Stimulating EDUCATION and awareness of Alzheimer's disease to the general public, caregivers and professionals
Promoting PUBLIC POLICY by encouraging programs and resources that respond to the needs of Alzheimer's disease patients and family members.
